On Saturday 18 February 2023, Mrs Halse and Mrs Jordan were treated to a wonderful morning at the Hilton Hotel Garden Inn in Umhlanga. The eco-schools co-ordinators from many schools in KZN met to share ideas, listen to an excellent keynote address by Professor Angela James (Wessa community engagement academic leader), take lots of photographs and receive awards for their work done in 2022. And of course, enjoy a delicious lunch, thanks to the Hilton Hotel!
It was also encouraging to hear input from Busisiwe Dladla from the Department of Basic Education, who has taken the Eco-schools program to heart and fully supports and promotes all that is being done in the schools.
Kloof Senior Primary has been an Eco-school for 13 years and received their Green Flag Decade Award in the form of a beautiful wooden tree, whose leaves are portrayed as handprints.
The motto of the Wessa program is:
Dream it with us. Believe it with us. Achieve it with us.
There are many staff and learners making a difference all over South Africa and it is humbling to be a small part of the change taking place as we educate and inform, so that everyone can make better choices.
